University of Nis: Overview
Founded in 1965, the University of Nis is one of the largest universities in Serbia, boasting a student body of over 28,000. It offers a diverse range of undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programmes across 13 faculties, including fields like humanities (the Faculty of Philosophy will be your academic home here in Nis), social sciences, engineering, and medicine. Our programmes emphasise practical experience, intercultural competence, and a deep understanding of social dynamics, preparing you to be a leader in your field. You will be welcomed with orientation days, student organisations like ESN for exchange students, and academic coordinators to assist throughout your studies.

Culture and Social Life
Nis offers a dynamic student life with numerous cultural festivals, including the famous Nisville International Jazz Festival. The Serbian Film Festival and various theatre performances also enrich the city’s cultural landscape. The city is known for its southern spirit, lively nightlife, and welcoming atmosphere. Students can explore the city’s rich history by visiting landmarks such as the Skull Tower, a chilling remnant of Serbian-Ottoman conflict, and Nis Fortress. For relaxation, there’s the Niska Banja (Nis Spa), located 10 km from the city, known for its therapeutic thermal waters.

Accommodation
International students can choose from several accommodation options, including affordable private rentals or temporary stays in local hostels. Rent for a studio ranges from €80 to €120 per month, with larger apartments costing up to €200. Meals can be taken in one of the university’s three canteens for around €4 a day, making student life in Nis highly affordable. Health and travel insurance are provided, covering all your study destinations within the SPOT programme.

Getting Around
Nis is well-connected by public transport, including buses and taxis. The city’s airport, Constantine the Great, offers budget flights to major European destinations, making travel convenient for students. Additionally, Belgrade’s Nikola Tesla Airport is only a short bus ride away.
